» Overlooking a cascading stream, this 17th
century watermill conversion nestles in a sheltered hollow
at the foot of the magnificent Howgill Fells.
» Situated in an area
noted for its spectacular scenery,
this detached stone cottage has access
to a unique and intriguing garden.
» There is ample off-road private parking for visitors.
» There are two duckponds and a little floatilla of ducks! Children
and adult visitors are welcome to watch and feed the ducks, as well as collect
any eggs.
» Paved pathways lead alongside tumbling waters to private grassed
arbors and patios, where a quiet evening drink or barbecue may be enjoyed.
» The nearby fells and mountains offer hillwalkers superb scenic walks,
whilst less demanding walks may be enjoyed amongst the quiet countryside which
surrounds the cottage.
» The owners are keen not to intrude on the holiday of visitors, however
they would be pleased to advise about activities, sightseeing etc. - if asked.
» A variety of birdlife inhabits the grounds and surrounding fells.
Amongst the regular visitors to the garden are Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Song
Thrushes, Siskins, Goldfinches and Nuthatches. On the fells you'll find Buzzards,
Lapwings and even an occasional Sparrowhawk. In the stream there are Brown Trout
and we have had rare visits from otters and deer which are a special delight. Because of
the purity of the stream water, the unspoilt nature of the ghyll and the fact that we are surrounded by an organic farm, for two years the stream was selected to receive an annual 'seeding' of 6000 tiny Salmon
fry.
